Double-sided tape application on glass creates a clean, ready-to-use adhesive strip on glass panels and components. The tape is applied automatically while its protective release liner remains intact, ready for later bonding.
However, glass is rigid and fragile. For this reason, the method used to cut the tape is just as important as the application itself.
With many standard double-sided tape applicators, the tape is cut directly against the product. When the required application length is reached, a knife strikes the tape to cut it.
Paper and cardboard can normally absorb this small cutting impact. Glass cannot flex in the same way, so the force of the knife can crack or break the panel—particularly when working with thin or delicate glass.
The tape can be cut and applied manually for occasional work, but this becomes slow and difficult to control during repeat production. An automatic contactless system provides a safer and more consistent method.

The correct double-sided adhesive tape must be selected for the glass, the material it will be bonded to and the intended final use. The glass surface should be clean and dry, and coated or treated glass should be tested before production.

A separate hot melt or liquid gluing system is not required because the double-sided tape already contains the adhesive.

Does Estream use a cutting knife?
Yes, but the tape is cut before it is applied. The knife operates away from the glass and never strikes the panel during the cutting process.
Can any double-sided tape be applied to glass?
The tape must be suitable for the glass surface, the second material being bonded and the conditions in which the finished product will be used. Application tests are recommended before production.
Can the applicator be installed on an existing glass line?
Integration may be possible if the existing line can transport and position the glass correctly. The available space, product support, controls and required tape position must first be evaluated.
