Silicone tape application on cardboard mailers creates a convenient peel-and-seal closure for corrugated mailers, rigid cardboard envelopes and e-commerce packaging. Pressure-sensitive hot melt adhesive is applied directly to the cardboard and covered with a removable silicone release liner.
To close the mailer, the final user simply removes the liner and presses the flap onto the exposed adhesive.
The main advantage is the direct application of hot melt adhesive to the cardboard.
Cardboard is a porous material. The hot melt can penetrate its pores and fibres, creating stronger anchorage than double-sided tape, which bonds mainly to the outer surface. This can produce a stronger and more dependable closure, particularly on porous corrugated or solid board.
Double-sided tape may still be more practical for short production runs because it requires simpler equipment and faster preparation. Automatic silicone tape application is generally more suitable for regular production where stronger adhesion and efficient consumable use are important.
Printed, coated, laminated or recycled cardboard should always be tested with the selected adhesive before production.

Depending on the mailer format and required production method, the system can be used with machines such as Manon, Ortigia, Ortigia MF, Babila FF or Babila CL.
Integration on another suitable cardboard mailer making machine or existing production line may also be possible, subject to technical assessment.
Is silicone tape itself adhesive?
No. It is a silicone-coated release liner that protects the hot melt adhesive until the cardboard mailer is ready to be closed.
Why can hot melt hold better than double-sided tape?
The hot melt is applied directly to the cardboard and can penetrate its pores and fibres. This creates stronger anchorage within the material instead of bonding only to its outer surface.
Which machine is needed?
The application requires the Mistral applicator, a hot melt gluing system and a suitable machine for transporting the cardboard blanks.
